Jon Jon has an Anikan backpack that he inherited from his older brother; It is essentially just a blanket that folds into a backpack. So, Jonathan puts on the backpack and says, "Mama, I ready, I ready for school!". I replied, "you are? right now?". Jonathan responds, "Yes, Mama, I go to school, I have my pack-pack on!". Then he walks over to the front door and says "Mama open it! I ride my bike to school!". I said to him, "School is very far away and you are still learning how to ride your little bike." He replied, "I not going to the big kids school mama, I go the Happy Feet school on my bike!" "Open it Mama, Let's go!" pointing to the front door again.

What a sweetheart! He totally thought since he had his "pack-pack" on he was ready to go to school and he knew how he was going to get there - on his bike and he knew where he was going.... the school on the movie Happy Feet !!!

I was able to talk him into a walk in the stroller with me to talk to the birds, squirrels, and occasional dogs. I guess there's my answer if I should look into part-time pre-school for Jonathan !

Mommy Minute - Is it worth it to have 1.5 year old play in sand on kitchen floor to get chores done ? YES !

Mommy Minute - letting my 1.5 year old play in the sand on my kitchen floor today....

It was so totally worth it ! My older son (who is 10 years old) is working on a project with sand and so there was this bucket of sand on the floor today and of course my youngest, Jonathan, found it fast ! I decided instead of saying "No!" and to stop the impending chaos.. I chose to join in and to sit down and play in the sand with him. I got out an extra bucket and some measuring cups and a funnel to play with him.

This was his first experience with sand and he LOVED it ! He was so happy. I left the mess all day long and he came into the kitchen while I was doing dishes and played in the sand.... he came into the kitchen while I was making dinner and played in the sand... loving life !

I have a linoleum floor and you know what it's just sand. I can sweep it up and put it back into the buckets and we are all set. So, what could you say "Yes" to next time and stop what you are doing and play with your toddler and share in their joy and be present in that minute ???

Gotta go sweep up that sand !

Mommy Minute - the Queen of Order vs. the King of Chaos

Mommy Minute - the Queen of Order vs. the King of Chaos

Sometimes the best toys cost nothing or very little. I had a ziploc bag filled with 3oz dixie cups from our recent Spring Break vacation. I bring them along for toothbrushing time when we go out of town.

Well, Baby Jon Jon found them and started playing with them while I was putting laundry away (aren't we always doing something with laundry ??). He was so cute and sweet playing with the cups. After a few minutes I played with him. We ended up playing for 30+ minutes with a stack of Dixie Cups !

I would stack them in one stack and he would undo them. I would stack them in 3 cup towers and he would knock them down. I would make three sets of 3 cup towers and he would knock them down. I would make 6 cup towers and he would blast them off the bed. It was tons of fun !

Sometimes, we have to stop those chores and get on the floor and play with our kids and just live and enjoy the moment with them !

Stay Tuned: more episodes of the Queen of Order vs. the King of Chaos to come !

Mommy Minute - The Best Things in Life are Free !

Mommy Minute - The Best Things in Life are Free !

Just took a 2.5 hour nap with my sweet baby ! I was up late late working last night until 3am and had to get up at 7am to get older kids off to school. I could barely see straight and finally at 10:30am my 15 month old sweetie was ready for a nap.

We took a long 2.5 hour glorious nap on my big pillow top king bed. How wonderful ! What a blessing snuggling with my sweetie. When he is awake he is non-stop energy and discovery boy and when he sleeps is like an angel.

This made a huge difference on my day and outlook. It was a gift for me to get to snooze and snuggle with my little guy. It would have been a very long day for both of us if we hadn't gotten this nap. I appreciate that some of the Best Things in Life are Free !
